Stemming from Rockhampton, Central Queensland, Coighty and The Kickstands bring the noise with their niche ‘Dive Bar Country’ vibe. Whether it be folk styled ballads to sing along with, or hard rockin’ country staples, CATK know how to deliver their unique style.

No matter if they’re performing at a local pub gig, rodeo, public event, or wedding, the boys from CATK live band combine a vast background in both musical taste and experience, which never fails to impress the punters at every opportunity.

With almost 20 years of gigging under his belt, well travelled Frontman ‘Coighty‘ is well recognised throughout the Central Queensland region and beyond from his spirited personality, and musical background and connections.

There is plenty to say about Coighty, although it’s his musical talent that deserves the recognition. Self taught from a young age on guitar, drums and vocals, it shows in the style he plays. Some would say that this playing style is incorrect by theory, although this is the thing that makes him most unique. Rather than learning how to hold positions correctly, he unknowingly sacrificed this to ascertain a unique tone through his fingers and chord positions, later to achieve notable quirky tones through hammer-ons and pull-offs to fill in the missing blanks space whilst playing solo performances.

His powerhouse vocals punch through the mix easily with strength, remaining raspy yet harmonic in both respects. A unique country twang is natural to his voice, not forced or deliberately learnt, it just comes out that way naturally from listening to hours upon hours of eclectic playlists of music which also shows in the extensive range played at his gigs.

Through changes in direction and a passion to deliver more, a touch of pure luck (and a few phone calls) emerged ‘Josho‘, the well seasoned (and reliable) drummer. Along with a wealth of experience in percussion and the bonus of being a tech head, Josho has strengthened the crew with ripping drum fills and a great ear for live sound.

Another chance meeting at a gig opened Coighty and The Kickstands up to the impressive sound they now hold, with Joni Gargar coming on board to play lead guitar and provide backing vocals.

Joni has a wealth of background in lead guitar, his roots primarily coming from the Chicken Picking masters of the game, being Brent Mason, Brad Paisley and the likes. Joni puts the final touches on Coighty and The Kickstands with the warm, yet punchy tone coming in from all the right angles out of the pickups on his Tele.
